Father's Day

My daddy is the man! Dan the man. I’m actually named after my dad, if you didn’t already know. Most folks would agree that my dad and I have a lot in common.

There’s a lot that I can say about my dad but the one thing that I will say is that I am very grateful that he is in my life. I’m also grateful that:

  1. He instilled the importance of taking pride in myself and everything that I put my hands to do. He would always say, “Once a job is first begun, never end it til it’s done. Be the labor great or small. Do it well or not at all.” That would ring in my ear as a child when I begrudgingly did my chores or any assigned task. As an adult, it means so much more. I always work hard to do things WELL
  2. He stressed the importance of family. He would always say “friends will come and go but family is forever.”
  3. He always made me feel like I could do anything…within reason…and with hardwork.
  4. Along those same lines he taught me to remain humble. He would always remind us that “there’s always a bigger fish swimming in the sea.”
  5. He taught me the importance of valuing people
  6. He taught me the importance of keeping my word
  7. He taught me that serving others will take you farther than being self-absorbed.
  8. He taught me that honesty is indeed the best policy even when it’s not popular.
  9. He taught me that God’s timing is everything and that good things come to those who wait.
  10. He taught me that prayer is the key.

While # 10 is critical, it makes me laugh to myself. Whenever we wanted something my mom would always defer to my dad. His response would be, “ let me pray about it.” It would drive us nuts and he knew it but I know that my dad prayed about EVERYTHING fervently especially for my sisters and I. I don’t think we would be where we are today without his prayers, his love, his discipline, and frankly him being who he is. My dad never changed. He was never moved by the opinions of others. He was and still is always consistent. If you were to ask me what my dad and I have in common, it would be this attribute. We are consistently ourselves and it’s not for everyone BUT we keep it pushin!

There is nothing like a Father’s love. It is in its purest form a reflection of Our Heavenly Father’s love for us as his children. It can often be difficult to comprehend but the feeling is unexplainable. I would encourage everyone to reflect on the love of our Heavenly Father as we celebrate Father’s Day. God’s Love never fails. It will never let you down. It’s reliable. It is patient. It is kind.  I could list multiple adjectives but none of those words would be enough to describe God’s love. I can say that my earthly father took the responsibility of fathering four girls like a champ and nailed it.

Thank you daddy for being God’s representative in my life here on earth! Happy Father’s Day!
