4 easy holiday side dish recipes

Last week Felicia posted Thanksgiving dinner hacks for rookies  so I wanted to follow up by sharing a few easy holiday side dish recipes using some of those hacks. I prefer to cook from scratch when preparing a holiday meal BUT over the years I have found a few ways to preserve time and energy in the kitchen. Check out these four easy holiday side dish recipes. They are tried, true, and tasty!

canned yams are a great side dish

Candied Yams

– 1 Large Can of yams

-Stick of butter

-1/2 cup of brown sugar

-1 cup of sugar

-1 TBSP vanilla extract

Drain the canned yams to reduce the amount of syrup Bring the following ingredients to a low boil: butter, brown sugar, sugar, and vanilla extract. Once the mixture is completely reduced to a syrup-like texture, pour over the canned yams. Bake to create a crispy texture or allow to sit in a pot on the stove ensuring that all yams are coated.

  • 1 Package of stove top stuffing
  • 1 cup of Pepperidge farm cornbread stuffing mix
  • 1 cup Pre-diced onions and celery (grocery store)
  • 1 Egg (optional)
  • 1 cup of Chicken Broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Prepare Stove Top stuffing accordingly. Once prepared mix in all ingredients. Additional broth may be needed to ensure that the mixture does not dry out when baking.  Combine all ingredients in a casserole dish and bake until consistent all the way through and brown on the top.

Additional Tip: Spread squeezable butter on the top of the mixture for a buttery, flaky end result.

Collard Greens

-Package of frozen collard greens (base the quantity on the number of guests)

– 2 cups Chicken Broth

– Package of turkey neck or ham hock (base on preference)

-Lawry’s Seasoning Salt

– 2-3 Chicken bouillon Cubes

Boil the seasoning meat and chicken broth until meat begins to fall apart. Add bouillon cubes to the boil. Add frozen greens and cover with water. Spring Lawry’s seasons salt as desired. Let greens simmer on low and cover with a top for 20-30 minutes or until desired consistency.

Honey Butter Rolls

  • 1 package of Brown n’ Serve Rolls
  • ½ stick of salted butter
  • ½ stick of butter or margarine
  • 2 tbsp of sugar
  • 1 tbsp of honey

Warm rolls per directions on the packaging. Mix all other ingredients in a small sauce pan. Remove rolls once warmed and liberally brush mixture from the sauce pan on each roll. Let rolls cool. Serve.

  • Please note that the recipes listed above serve approximately 4-6 people
